Each year the festive period can make or break the progress of any decent Fantasy Premier League team and this year is no different. To truly gain that extra yard on your mates it’s worth taking a risk that could potentially pay off across the four games each team has over the Christmas period.
Laid out below are five players that many of those in your league won’t have chosen.
Christian Benteke [Aston Villa] £8.8m
It’s true that the Belgian forward has been suffering from second season syndrome and it may put various managers off but why not be the one guy that takes a chance on his ability to be the powerhouse that Emile Heskey once was?!
Villa visit Stoke and Sunderland whilst playing host to Crystal Palace and Swansea, and if he breaks his duck against Stoke then he could easily go on a run that lasts across the entire festive period.

Dimitar Berbatov [Fulham] £7m
Since sacking Martin Jol the West London side have started to show signs of a revival under Rene Meulensteen and the side’s most impressive asset is the former Man Utd and Spurs talisman.
They may not be particularly hot defensively but are always good for a few goals and play the notoriously poor travellers Man City at home before visiting Norwich and Hull, which is then followed by a home game against West Ham. For that game they could also welcome back Clint Dempsey on loan and he will link well with the Bulgarian. Keep calm and pick Berba.

Danny Welbeck [Man Utd] £7m
Both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney remain on the sidelines for the time being and Welbeck is likely to continue to start for the side in its upcoming game with West Ham as well as maybe the game with Spurs at home along with visits to both Hull and Norwich.
At just £7 million he’s a cheap fix and will leave enough spare change to be able to afford a big money buy such as Luis Suarez of Liverpool.
Teams selected by: 4.1 per cent.
Adam Johnson or Emmanuele Giaccherini [Sunderland] £6.4m and £6.3m
There are signs of a slight recovery up at the Stadium of Light and with home games against Norwich and Aston Villa there’s every chance that the Black Cats could come out with a 100 per cent record. The side’s strikers are a bit too big of a risk but they create much from midfield and the two wingers are very reasonably priced.
Teams selected by: 1.4 per cent and 1 per cent.
